The brief & my role
Old City Sounds is a free music festival in Bristol Old City aimed at supporting grassroots organisations and celebrating the vibrant music scene in the city, supported by Fanatic’s client Bristol BID.
The brief I was tasked with, was to create a stylised map that reflected the existing Old City Sounds branding, and showed the locations of all the different venues and subtly hints at the music genres on offer.

A visual style that reflects the music
The result was a colourful, graphic map with basic 3D elements taking inspiration from vintage jazz posters that used irregular shapes and straight lines. As this is a family friendly event, the map needed to be functional for adults to find the venues, but also visually playful for children.
More recently, the map was made into a colouring-in version for children and an accompanying programme of the day’s events was commissioned.
